8th Baron De Percy Henry VIII DE PERCY
Henry had livery of his father's
lands in 1249 and was accorded to marry as he pleased, on payment of 900 pounds,
a very large fine even for a baron. He inherited little of his father's
"faineant" nature, fighting valiantly in Wales and Scotland. He married Lady
Eleanor Plantagenet, niece of King Henry III. This marriage knitted still closer
the ties of relationship between the family of Percy and the reigning house, as
Eleanor's mother was half-sister to King Henry III.[91502.ftw] Henry married Baroness Percy Eleanor Plantagenet-De WARRENE, daughter of Earl Of Warren & Surrey John II Plantagenet-De WARRENE and Countess Of Surrey Alice DE LUSIGNAN, on 8 Sep 1268. (Baroness Percy Eleanor Plantagenet-De WARRENE was born in 1251 in Surrey, England, died in 1282 in En and was buried in Sallay Abbey, Craven, Yorkshire, England.) |
