bullet  General Notes:

Charles was still a young boy when his half brother, King Carloman died in 884 and his cousin, Charles "the Fat" in 888. Since Charles was too young to rule as king, Eudes, the Count of Paris, was crowned King of France instead of Charles. There was a rebellion against Eudes' rule and Charles became the co-ruler of France until Eudes died in 898 and Charles became the sole king. However, Charles' reign was not successful. In order to stop the Norse raids, he gave the city and territory of Rouen (Normandy) to the Norse leader, Rollo.

In 922, the nobles revolted against Charles and he was deposed. Robert I, Eudes brother, was elected by the nobles to be King of France. A year later, Robert and Charles met at the battle of Soissons; Robert was killed and Charles was taken prisoner by Herbert II, Count of Vermandois. Charles spent the next six years in prison where he died in 929.[91502.ftw]
