Our Position on U.S. History

We believe that our U.S. history is what makes us "Americans" today. The genius and sacrifice that was made on the part of our ancestors and founding fathers laid the groundwork and paved the way for a land... a "Nation" to be a place where individuals and families from different cultures, backgrounds, race, religion and beliefs can come to exercise the most basic of human rights without fear of persecution. Of course, as good as this sounds and truly was, it wasn't without atrocities of our own. After all, here was this new nation, boasting of equal rights and freedom to all, while at the same time there was slavery and there was the movement to the south and to the west, stripping Native Americans of their homes, lands and even cultures. Even our own women were treated as "property" and had little or no rights.

We believe that History is an account of the events and circumstances of the past, not just the rosy and the good, but not so good and even 'bad" as well. We feel that all the history is important for us to know so we can continue to grow as a people and a nation by continuing to learn from our mistakes and capitalize on our successes.
